DANA YOST

NIGHT LIGHT FOR THE HARVEST

Sickle-shaped moon,

polished,

as if its edges

had been whetted

                                          and it had cut

what it had been asked to cut

then wiped clean

                                         and hung in the sky

like a tool on a workshop wall.

Dana Yost was an award-winning daily newspaper journalist for twenty-nine years. Since 2008, he has published five books, most recently a history of the Midwest in the 1940 era (Ellis Press). His poems have been published in several reviews and anthologies.
