GUY THORVALDSEN

LATE NOVEMBER

The world is awash in gray,

the lake

a clay slab

that has eaten the sky.

Or perhaps the sky has drunk

fully of the lake–

the point being

that neither seems willing

to give the other up

and I do not know

whether to swim

or fly

or simply give way

to winter.

Guy Thorvaldsen’s poetry has appeared in Zone 3, Verse Wisconsin, Forge, Alembic, Magma 69 (London), Poet Lore and Home (an anthology). His first book of poetry, Going to Miss Myself When I’m Gone, was published in 2017 by Kelsay Books.
